Accredited Primary Temperature Calibration Services from Transcat

Transcat's Reference/Primary Temperature Laboratories are located in our Dayton, Ohio, calibration lab and the Philadelphia, PA, calibration lab. These two facilities are capable of realizing the ITS-90 scale (International Temperature Scale of 1990) by utilizing the defining instrumentation of Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometers (SPRT's), ITS-90 Fixed Point Cells, extremely stable and uniform Temperature Baths, and a precision Thermometry Resistance Bridge. In doing so, we are able to deliver a wide range of reference thermometry calibrations, all of which provide traceability to SI units through NIST in three distinct categories: Thermometer Readout-only, Probe-only, and System Calibrations.

Precision Thermometer Readout

Thermometer Readout-Only devices measure electrical outputs/resistances and covert them to temperature. Calibrations are traceable through the use of Standard Decade Resistors characterized by a Fluke 1595A or Fluke 1590 DC Resistance Bridge and an Agilent / Keysight 3458A 8.5 Digit Multimeter, covering a range of 0 to 1 gigaohm with a best case uncertainty of 0.036 milliohm

PRT, SPRT and System Calibrations

Transcat also offers Probe-only and System Calibrations (w/ probe and readout together) for reference grade PRT's (Platinum Resistance Thermometers), Precision Thermistors, and SPRT's (Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometers). All calibrations are traceable through extremely stable and uniform Temperature Baths/Blocks, the Triple Point of Water, Mini Fixed Point Cells, including Indium (156.5985 °C), Tin (231.928 °C), Zinc (419.527 °C), aluminum (660.323 °C), SPRT's and a DC Resistance Bridge, which offers a temperature range of -196°C to 660.323°C and a best-case uncertainty of 0.6 millikelvin in our Dayton lab and 0.5 millikelvin in the Philadelphia lab.

Upon realization of the ITS-90 scale, as outlined by NIST Technical Note 1265 (Guidelines for Realizing the International Temperature Scale of 1990), and by utilizing the above techniques, the customer is provided with ITS-90 Coefficients pertaining to the temperature range calibrated. Temperature vs. resistance tables will be provided, depending on the level of service requested and/or provided.
